Somewhere between leaving University, getting married and having two beautiful (most of the time) daughters there came the phenomenon of the 'Yummy Mummy'. It took the whole 'Having it all' concept to the next level. Not only were we expected to be great wives/mothers, have wonderful fulfilling careers and a  stimulating social life, whilst at the same time remaining glamorous and poised every moment of the day and bake cakes for the local fete. (cakes optional I know but sometimes it was the only thing that got me through the day).

Ever the optimist I decided I was up to this challenge - started a new job as a Marketing Director with a three hour commute thrown in (the girls at this stage were three and one year old). The fact that you are reading this on my company website gives you some idea of what happened next ... lets just say that this mummy became anything but yummy ...

I decided to throw my energy into something that I know and care about, hence Pergradi was born. From an initial idea (to just sell good stuff and have fun doing it) it took 18 months to research, with every product hand picked to fulfil the brief of providing high quality, stylish and affordable products.

Launching Pergradi in November 2007 has been one of the most daunting and exciting times. With a website and catalogue containing a small yet perfectly formed collection of inspired designs, unique materials, extensive organic choices and generally things to make you go oooh and aaah. Our values are simple ... we want you to love what we do and how we do it.

The rest of this story will rely on a lot of hard work, a bit of luck and some fairy dust thrown in. I hope to have a lot more to write on this page.

About our Suppliers

As previously mentioned we have sourced our products from around the globe and all have been hand picked for their style, uniqueness, and the way that they make functional look effortless. There are however a number of other reasons why they have been chosen – either they only produce the highest quality organic products, they use fair trade cotton, they fund projects to benefit the communities in which their workers live, or they donate a percentage of their profits to charity. These are values that are important to me and my company and we will always endeavour to research the ethical footprint of our suppliers on your behalf. These are just a sample ...

Aravore Babies

Aravore Babies clothes and bedding are made from 100% certified organic cotton and organic merino wool. Each piece is hand loomed, embroidered, crocheted and stitched by craftswomen at the Aravore’s workshop in Asuncion (Paraguay) using traditional knitting methods.

Aravore is currently working on a project to increase the amount of organic cotton that is currently grown in Paraguay by sponsoring a group of small-scale farmers in their transition from conventional agriculture to planting organic cotton. This project (Nande Aravore - 'Our piece of the sky')  includes the establishment of a local farming co-operative as well as a community fund to carry out improvement to health and education in the local area.

Organics for Kids

Organics for Kids use the finest organic textiles. Their cotton and linen are free from pesticides and artificial fertilisers, and the farmers who grow them receive a fair price for their crop. And because non-organic cotton is responsible for a quarter of global insecticide use each year, we believe that going organic makes a real difference. As well as the environment and the farmers, they pay great attention to the finished product and offer you a range that is beautiful to look at, comfortable to wear and practical to care for. Their clothes are designed and made in England and India.

Piccalilly

Piccalilly was started by Hannah Evans in 2006 and is based in the Yorkshire Dales. Hannah studied film production at the Royal College of Art and came up with the concept of Piccalilly after the birth of her second child. The aim behind Piccalilly organic cotton clothes and accessories is to build a socially conscious brand, whilst remaining colourful and modern in design. Hannah is dedicated to sourcing products on a fair trade basis and the entire Piccalilly organic cotton clothes range is FAIRTRADE certified - a guarantee that producers in developing countries are getting a better deal.
